Look what came in the mail - Schau mal was die Post gebracht hat

Special thanks for this particular post go to Thorsten, Steffi, Jan and Jonas Bender, who send us a very special package on 23 December. The package arrived yesterday (note to my sister: no, yours has not arrived yet but we have not given up hope :-).

Ein ganz herzliches Dankeschoen fuer diesen post geht an Thorsten, Steffi, Jan und Jonas Bender, die uns am 23 Dezember ein ganz besonderes Paket geschickt haben. (Anmerkung fuer meine Schwester: Nein, deines ist noch nicht angekommen aber noch geben wir die Hoffnung nicht auf :-)).

I never thought I would be waiting for a package from Europe to arrive, since we were moving to a civilized country. I figured that this would have been much more of an issue if our assignment had been to Africa or Asia but I was wrong. Americans obviously have other preferences when it comes to food and some of the little things that consitute almost every German recipe can simply not be found (or if you are lucky, the price causes your heart rate to go up quite a bit).

Ich haette niemals gedacht, dass ich einmal auf ein Paket aus Europa warten wuerde, da wir ja in ein zivilisiertes Land auswanderten. Ich glaubte, dass dies anders waere falls wir nach Afrika oder Asien gingen, aber ich lag falsch. Amerikaner haben offensichtlich andere Vorlieben wenn es um Essen geht und all die kleinen Dinge, die in deutschen Rezepten so selbstverstaendlich sind, bekommt man einfach nicht (oder wenn man besonderes Glueck hat nur zu einem Preis, bei dem der Puls ziemlich schnell ansteigt).

 
So we were all excited to receive a package from Koblenz yesterday with the following:

- mustard
- vanilla sugar
- pudding powder
- gluehwein fix (all the spices to make german hot wine)
- haribo gummies (specials that are not available here)
- toothpaste with citrus flavour (for Paula, who cannot stand mint in any form)
- chocolates (the ones with caramel from Werther's).

Daher haben wir uns alle sehr ueber das Paket gestern gefreut, denn es enthielt Loewensenf, Vanillezucker, Pudding Pulver, Gluehweinfix, Haribos, Zahnpasta mit Citrusgeschmack (fuer Paula, der bei Minze schlecht wird) und Karamellschokolade von Werthers).
